The history of paneer

This is a story of paneer.

Paneer is a type of cheese that is very famous in Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan. Paneer derives its name from Panir in Persian meaning cheese.

It also forms a very important part of the daily diet of the people in India and the love for paneer is probably one of the few things that binds Indians together.

It is unmelting and a pretty soft solid at normal temperatures and is made by splitting and heating milk.

It is sometimes wrapped in dough and deep-fried or served with either spinach or peas.

Paneer is usually compared to chenna which is used in rasgullas but it is not the same.

Other rare Indian cheeses include Kudan, Kalari Churu etc.
