You can incorporate different activities to introduce colours to your baby. This can be started around the age of 18 months or anytime when you feel your child is ready. Different children have different learning abilities and have their own pace of grasping new things so work accordingly. For a toddler, colours are a little difficult to identify compared to identifying shapes. Whatever you wish to introduce, do it one at a time. Give your child sufficient time to grasp the concept and learn the difference. If you are starting with colours, the first thing you should teach them is to recognise different colours and learn the name. Repeated exposure to the same colour will help them learn effortlessly. Initially, they can mix up colours which is normal and okay, give them time. Introduce only one colour in a week and talk about the same colour for the entire week. Point at different objects and ask them to identify and name the colour. You can plan following activities to teach colours or you can design yours too: <ul><li>Make a book of colours, either by sticking pictures of the same colour as a red ball, red apple, red strawberries, and so on.</li><li>Take different coloured crayons and different coloured boxes and tell your child to sort the crayons by putting them into matching coloured boxes.</li><li>Play with your food. Sort different coloured food in the kitchen with your child. For example group apples, strawberries, red bell pepper together. Put yogurt, bread, and sugar in another group.</li><li>Paint pebbles with watercolours with your child. This will help your child in learning the colours as well as improve their sense of touch.</li><li>Learning tools like coloured blocks and shapes available in the market can be purchased.</li></ul>
