He told them that the thief’s stick would grow two inches by the next day.The next day, Birbal summoned the servants again. He noticed that a servant’s stick was two inches shorter than the others.He knew who the thief was.The foolish thief had cut the stick shorter by two inches as he thought it would grow two inches. Chetak was the most lovable and favourite horse of Maharana Pratap. Chetak was loyal and devoted towards his master.&nbsp;The army of Mughal emperor Akbar started its way to capture Udaipur in the year 1576. A bloody battle was fought between Akbar and Maharana Pratap at the Haldighati. The battle lasted for four hours. During the battle the loyalty and courage of Chetak was impeccable. Chetak was hurt during the battle but even after being hurt, he did not give up and protected his master. He took his master – Maharana Pratap, on his back and made to the safety on only three legs.The courage and dignity of the horse towards his master was unconditional. The horse saved the king but at the end lost his life. He collapsed after taking the king to a safe place.&nbsp;Chetak was a great companion of Maharana Pratap during the battle against Akbar. He at the risk of his own life protected his master.It is believed that chetak was a very aggressive and arrogant horse. It was only Maharana Pratap who was able to handle him. He not only remained loyal to his master but also rescued his master from the battlefield.

Billy was really excited today as it was the CIRCUS DAY and Billy loved going to the circus – all the animals and the people. It was so much fun!Billy along with his parents arrived at the huge red and white striped tent called the ‘Big Top’ at 8 o’clock sharp. The ringmaster shouted with his huge booming voice, ‘Good evening, ladies and gentlemen!’The first act of the evening was of a man and a woman dressed in sparkly clothes balancing on a huge swing at the top of the circus tent. They flew through the air. “Ooooo!” shouted the people every time they flew. It was very, very exciting.Next came in six huge and fierce looking lions along with a man. Billy watched as the man put his head in the biggest lion’s mouth. ‘Ooooo!’ shouted the people in horror and amazement.Now was the turn for the clowns. They wore brightly coloured clothes – blue and yellow and red with spots of green. The clowns had painted their faces with different colours and they had red coloured nose and hair. They fell over, told lots of jokes and did lots of very silly things. “Ha, ha, ha!” laughed everyone in the audience – and Billy laughed too.Finally, in the end it was time for the act of the elephants. There were three enormous grey elephants and one smaller one. The small one balanced on one leg and did lots of tricks. Then it stopped and looked up at Billy. “Hello,” said Billy to the elephant. “I’m Billy.”“I’m Minny,” replied the elephant to Billy’s surprise. Then all of a sudden MInny ran towards the door and barged out of the tent and on to the streets of the town. All the people rushed out of the circus tent screaming, “Aagh! The elephant – it’s escaped!” “Help!” cried the ringmaster. “Minny the elephant has escaped!”Minny was very happy as it was the first time she had been out of the circus! She felt good to be free and loved running about in the streets of the town! She ran along the main street towards the main square. She saw the fountain in the middle of the square and climbed into the big fountain to sit down in the water.People tried to walk by but Minny sprayed water at them using her huge trunk! “Oh, this is much more fun than the circus!” cried Minny. After a while Minny decided to explore the town. She went into the big supermarket. The people in the supermarket started screaming on seeing Minny and ran out of the supermarket. Minny had a wonderful time – she helped herself to the bananas and scoffed a large chocolate cake, ten packets of biscuits and a large number of buns.After she had eaten to her full capacity, Minny decided to explore again so she went out into the street. In the distance, Minny saw a big house but there was something strange about it – there was a red light all around it.Minny walked towards the house and heard people in the house shouting and screaming. “Help!” they shouted. “Save us!” Minny rushed into the garden opposite the house where there was a big pond with lots of water. She put her trunk in the water and took in as much water as she could. Then she rushed over to the house and sprayed the house with water. She repeated spraying the water from her trunk many times to clear out the flames and fire.Minny could see a small boy standing at a window at the top. The boy quickly opened the window and Minny took him out of the house using her trunk. “Minny!” he cried. “It’s me!”“Hello, Billy,” said the elephant. “You saved me!” cried Billy. “You are the bravest elephant in the world!” Billy’s mother and father came rushing out of the house. They couldn’t believe what they saw! Billy and their house were safe because of an elephant. The next day everyone from the town gathered around the town hall. Minny, the elephant was honoured with a special medal. Billy rode around the square on Minny’s back, waving and smiling at all the people.They went slowly back to the circus to rejoin the other elephants. Minny was so happy that she never wanted to escape from the circus again. Moral:Use your freedom for the right purposes.

CIRCUS ESCAPE

Sunny was upset today and was walking down the road when he saw an old man sitting on a chair. He was a seller of second-hand shoes. Sunny thought he looked at least 70 years old. The old man seemed so tired and nobody was buying his shoes. Sunny wanted to give him something but he had not brought anything with him.Then, a little girl came towards the old man. Sunny heard the child say, "Grandfather, may I polish your shoes?" That old man took pity on her, smiled and he gave her a shoe to polish.The girl said, "I polish the shoes because I need money to buy a new school uniform for my brother”.Sunny heard this and tears came to his eyes. The old man answered, "Oh, little girl. Just stop doing this. Come with me and I will buy you a uniform." Then they walked to a market and Sunny followed them. The old man bought her a uniform. The girl was so happy. She said, "Thank you so much for doing this. May God bless you." Then she left, leaving the old man smiling.The old man walked away from the market, but Sunny stopped him. He whispered in the old man's ear, "You are a hero! Thank you for your kindness!" As Sunny walked away, he glanced back and could see the old man still smiling.Sunny was blown away by the kindness he had just seen. Someone who had so little themselves, was able to show such incredible generosity! Amazing! Sunny's sadness had completely disappeared, chased way by the light of this kind act.Sunny began realizing that he had a lot to be thankful for. He hoped, that some day even he would be ableto show his appreciation for what he has by following the example of the old man who only had a little, but shared it so beautifully with someone who had nothing. Moral:One act of kindness inspires many others. It does not matter how much you have. If you choose to give, you are wealthy by your heart.

Following is a story about Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi is known as the “Father of the Nation”. He led the non-violence movement in India and helped India in getting freedom from the British rule. This is a particular incident from Gandhiji’s school days in South Africa.Gandhi was in his first year in high school. One day, the education inspector was supposed to visit the school. Generally, an educational inspector visits the school to see if the education of the school is proper or not. The education inspector, Mr. Giles visited the school. He came to Gandhi’s class and dictated five words in which every student had to spell it in their books. Gandhi had misspelled one of the words. The word was ‘Kettle’. The teacher of the class saw Gandhi’s mistake and signalled him to look from the neighbour’s book. Gandhi was a little surprised to see that because he thought the teacher was supposed to supervise against copying.Even though the teacher advised Gandhi to copy the spelling from the neighbour’s book, Gandhiji did not look in his. The result was that all the boys except Gandhi spelled all the spellings correctly. Only Gandhi was the one that could not spell it correctly. The teacher later even tried to make fun of him because he did not follow his instructions. Gandhi always followed his principles and copying from others was against his principles. He could never learn the art of coping. Even after the incident, Gandhi never disrespected his teacher. He always treated the teacher with respect and honour. For him, to respect elders was more important than to judge them due to their actions. Moral:Never change your principles by getting influenced by someone.

One day Pam’s school announced a triathlon which is a multi sports competition. The triathlon consists of a running race followed by cycling and finally a swimming competition.Pam was very excited by this news.She was always a very competitive person and began training really hard to win the competition. Every day for a month, she ran around in her backyard, cycled in her neighbourhood and swam in her pool.Her mother would often jokingly say, “You know that there is so much more than just winning, yeah?” And every time Pam would just smile back and say “No. There isn’t.”On the day of the triathlon, Pam was very excited. Both her parents had come to support her and she could see them cheering for her in the crowd. She waved at them before the race began.When the running competition began, Pam ran like the wind, she was the first to finish it. Then came cycling and Pam finished it the first too. In the end as she reached the final phase of the triathlon, swimming competition, Pam was sure she would win. She dived into the pool and was halfway through it when she heard noises behind her, “Help!” It said.She turned and saw a boy struggling to stay afloat. The lifeguards had jumped in but they were very far away. Pam was closer. Pam was also very close to the finish line that would make her win the race.But she swam back to help the boy instead. Pam helped save the boy’s life and she realised what her mother meant when she said that there is so much more than just winning. Moral:Competition is not everything; sportsman spirit is the most important part of any sport.

On a fine, beautiful day Tara’s school takes all first graders out on a field trip. The aim of this field trip is to tell the children about different places in the city.Firstly they went to a police station. There Tara learned how a police station works and the police work.&nbsp;In the police station she met policemen. Police works very hard to keep us safe and punishes people who do wrong.&nbsp;Next they went to a post office. A post office is where the mail we write goes. We can write our letters and send it at the post office, from there it gets delivered to other cities and the postman takes it to our desired location.After that they went to a fire station and they met firefighters. Fire fighters put their lives on a risk to protect people who are stuck in a fire. Tara saw fire trucks and giant hose pipes which are used to spray water over fires.Next came a grocery store. A grocery store is where you can buy vegetables, dairy products, fruits that you need daily.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Then they went to the airport. An airport is where planes land and you can board them. There so many different types of planes. She saw the airport security, pilots and passengers.After the airport they went to the library which was Tara’s personal favourite stop. They saw many different types of books all neatly arranged.That day the kids learnt a lot about how different institutions in the city work.

Field trip!

One day, Mulla Nasiruddin was talking to his neighbour. The neighbour was looking so miserable that Nasiruddin asked him what was bothering him. The man started to complain about the lack of space in his house and said, “It is such a small house, Mulla. And me, my wife, my three children and my mother-in-law–all have to live together in the same little cottage. It is very cramped and there is hardly any space to move around.” He asked Nasiruddin for some advice on how to deal with this problem.Nasiruddin said, “Do you keep chickens in the yard?” “Yes, ten of them,” replied the man. “Good. Bring them inside the house and keep them there,” said Nasiruddin. “But, Mulla!” the man exclaimed. “My house is already overcrowded.” “Just do as I say,” Nasiruddin replied.The man was really very troubled and wanted to find a solution to his problem. He decided to give the Mulla’s advice a try. So the man went home and brought all the chickens into the house. Next day, he went to meet Nasiruddin again. He said, “Mulla, I followed your advice and took the chickens into the house. But it did not solve anything. In fact, it has made matters worse. My house is even more cramped now.“I see,” said Nasiruddin. ” Now take your donkey and keep it inside your house. The man did not think much of this idea but Nasiruddin managed to convince him to do it.The next day, the man came to Nasiruddin, looking very distressed, and said,”Now, it’s six humans , ten chickens and a donkey inside my house. It is so crowded that one can hardly move.” Nasiruddin replied, “You own a goat too, don’t you?” “Yes, I do,” said the man. “Great,” Nasiruddin said. “Take it inside the house too.” The man objected, “How is that going to solve anything?” but Nasiruddin once again convinced him to do as he had said.The next day, the man walked up to Nasiruddin in a state of anger and distress and said, “Your plan has made our lives miserable. The house is now so crowded that we are finding it difficult to even breathe. My family is upset and everyone is complaining about the lack of space.”“Don’t get so upset, friend,” said Nasiruddin. “Go back home and take all the animals back outside.” The man did as he was told.Next day, when the man came across Nasiruddin, he was beaming. He said, “I must thank you, Mulla! Your plan has worked wonders. Now that all the animals are outside, there is enough space in the house for all the family members. Everyone is happy and content with the house now.” Moral:Satisfaction is the key to a content life. Complaining about the situation leads to nowhere.

Imli was a very happy and playful little puppy. She was nearing her six month mark and her human parents sent her to get trained to be a guide dog.Imli was very excited as at the school, she met other puppies like her. She had a set routine for her and loved all the work she got to do.They were under strict instructions to always follow the order of their trainer and follow the routine that was set for them. Only then could they become guide dogs, and Imli was determined to ace all the tests and make her parents proud.However, one morning on a daily run she encountered a thief stealing a purse from an old lady. Her trainer had veered her and the other pups away. However, Imli couldn’t just follow orders and felt bad for the old lady.She ran after the thief, breaking her schedule, and even though she was tiny, she slowly caught up to him.This was how Imli saved the day. Moral:Having a fix routine is a good thing as it helps you be more organized. It is like a shelter. However, shelter can also prevent you from seeing the sun, so you sometimes have to break your general routine to follow your goals.
