There was a boy who was very fond of cashew nuts. So his mother always gave him a few nuts to eat. The boy always asked her for more nuts. Every time the mother would say, "No, my dear, not so many at a time. If you eat too many at a time, you will get pain in your stomach."The stern voice of his mother made the boy quiet. But he never felt that what she said was right. One day the boy was alone-in the house. His mother had gone out for some work. The boy managed to get at the jar of cashew nuts. There was no one to stop him from eating the cashews on that day. So he ate as many cashew nuts as he could.Next day the boy fell sick. He suffered from a severe pain in his stomach. He felt sorry for not obeying his mother. Moral:Your elders are your well-wishers. Obey them.

Once there were two dairy shops owned by two brothers. Both the brothers were very good businessmen and worked very hard.However, one of them always profited more than the other. The other was always confused as to how that was possible.One day he decided to ask his brother, “Brother, how is it that we both sell the same things at the same price and yet you earn more than me? We both work equally hard, so why is it?”The brother replied, “Because I wake up early in the morning and open my shop early.”The man understood his mistake. Dairy products are usually needed early in the morning and thus more customers are available in the morning.He decided to wake up early and work harder too. Moral:Waking up early and getting to work gives you a headstart at the day and is always profitable.

The story of two brothers

This story dates back to the time when king Brahmadutta ruled the city of Banaras. He had four young princes. They young princes had grown up hearing many wonderful stories about a beautiful tree known as the Red Bud Tree. They had never seen the Red Bud tree and wished to be the first one to see it.One day, driven by his curiosity to see the tree at the earliest, the eldest prince asked the king’s charioteer to take him deep into the woods where this tree grew. It was still early spring and the tree was standing as a bare stump of wood in the forest, devoid of any leaves or buds. The prince failed to understand why it was known as the Red-Bud tree and returned back to the palace.Sometime later in spring, the next son requested the king’s charioteer to take him to the Red Bud Tree. At this time, the tree was covered with bright red buds and looked very beautiful.The third son went into the woods just after the spring time. Now tree did not have any red buds and was covered with lush green leaves. He also could see no reason for calling it a Red Bud tree.The youngest price also decided to go and have a look at the famous Red Bud tree. By this time, the tree was covered with little bean-pods. When he came back from the forest, he ran into the garden where his brothers were playing and told them with much excitement, "I saw the Red Bud tree!""So, what is special about it?" said the eldest prince. “It is nothing but a dead stump of wood,” He added."What makes you say that?" said the second son. "When I went in the woods, it was covered with hundreds of beautiful red buds. This is why it is known as the Red Bud tree."The third prince said, "I have also seen the Red Bud tree. It is neither a dead stump of wood nor covered with red buds. It looks like an ordinary tree covered with green leaves."The youngest prince said with utmost confidence, "Brothers, all of you are mistaken! I have just a seen the tree and I can say for sure that it is now covered with little bean-pods."The princes wondered that maybe the Red Bud tree was indeed some mystical tree and appeared in different forms before different people. The king was overhearing their conversation. When they stopped talking, he came out and said, "My dear sons, all four of you have seen the same tree, but each of you saw it at a different time of the year." The princes understood what the matter was and laughed at their naivete. Moral: All is not what it seems. The four princes could not agree with each other because all of them had seen different stages of the tree. Sometimes, there’s more to a situation than what meets the eye.

The Red Bud Tree

Once upon a time, a sparrow lived on a tree. He had a beautiful and comfortable nest in the tree and used to live in it happily. Each day, the sparrow would go out in search of food and return to the nest in the evening. One day, the sparrow as usual went out to look for food but it started raining heavily so the sparrow had to take shelter in another tree’s branches. The sparrow kept waiting for the rain to stop so that he could go home but the rain did not stop all night.In the morning, when the sky cleared, the sparrow returned to his nest. He was shocked to find a rabbit in his nice and comfortable nest. The sparrow became angry and said, “This is my home. Please leave at once and go back to wherever you have come from.” “Don’t be such a fool,” the rabbit replied. “Things like trees, rivers and lakes don’t belong to anyone. They are only yours as long as you are living in them. If, in your absence, your place is acquired by someone else, then it belongs to them. So, this place is now mine. Don’t disturb me now.”But the sparrow did not see any logic in the rabbit’s statement. He wanted his home back. He said, “Let us go and seek the advice of some wise person who can help us to settle this matter. Now it so happened, that a wild cat who used to live at a little distance from the tree overheard the conversation of the sparrow and the rabbit. He thought of taking advantage of the situation. So he quickly took a dip in the river and then sat like a priest chanting the name of God loudly. When the sparrow and the rabbit heard the chanting and saw the cat sitting there like a priest, they thought that he must be a very wise person. So, they went to consult him hoping that he provide them with impartial justice.The cat was very happy to see the sparrow and the rabbit. He pretended to listen with interest as they told their story and put forth their arguments. As soon as the time was right, he pounced upon them and killed both of them and ate them for his meal. This is how tussles over little, insignificant matters may sometimes lead to disaster. Moral:When you fight among yourself over little things, some third person gains from that usually.

The three kings were King Gasper, Melchior, and King Balthazar. One day, they saw a beautiful star shining brightly over Bethlehem. They knew it was a sign of God. They decided to follow the star. They followed God’s direction and to search for the King of Jews. The kings travelled all their way on the camel over mountains, deserts and over white open plains. They followed the star to find the child who would become the king of Jews. They believed that the star was God’s sign to give them direction.The wise men reached Bethlehem and the star disappeared. They were outside the palace of King Herod. They went to King Herod to ask about the child that was born. King Herod was afraid he would lose his kingdom so he said, “Tell me when you find this child so that I can also honour him.” The wise men were disappointed and did not know where to find the child. They again saw the star in the sky and started following it. They kept following the star and the star disappeared when they reached their destination. The wise men were overwhelmed. They were outside the house. They went inside and saw a little child in Mary’s lap. The child was born to Mary and Joseph. The wise men knew that the child was Jesus, son of God so they knelt down in front of him. They came with valuable gifts for their Lord. They offered God with precious gold and valuable gifts. When they left the house, they did not go back to King Herod because they were warned in their dream not to do that. They travelled back to their homes. One night, Joseph, the father of the child saw an angel in his dream. The angel warned him in the dream, “Hurry to Egypt and save the child. King Herod wants to kill the child and the Lord needs to be saved.”So, Joseph and Mary immediately left for Egypt along with Jesus. After many years, when King Herod died, the angel again came to Joseph’s dream and said, “You can go back to Bethlehem with Jesus, it is safe now.” Soon, they went back to Bethlehem and lived there happily. That is the place where Jesus grew up.Moral:Have faith that God always plans things for the greater good.

It was a hot summer day. A traveller hired a donkey to carry him across the dusty road to the next town. The donkey was lazy. He stopped every now and then.So his master walked behind and flogged the animal to keep him moving on. At noon, they stopped on the way to rest. The traveller sat in the shadow of the donkey for there was no other shade.It was very hot and the donkey's master was also very much tired. He too, wanted to sit in the shade of his donkey. So he said to the traveller, ''The donkey is mine and therefore his shadow, too, is mine. You only hired my donkey. You said nothing about his shadow. So let me sit in the shade of my donkey."The traveller said, "I have hired the donkey for the day. It is my right to use his shadow, too, for the whole day. You can't separate the shadow from the donkey, can you?"While the two men were engaged in quarrelling and fighting, the donkey ran away. He took away his shadow with him. Moral:You lose things of importance in petty fights.

Once upon a time, a lion called Madotkata used to live in a dense forest. He was the king of the forest. He had three friends — a jackal, a wolf, and a crow. These were not true friends. They were selfish and had become friends with the lion for their own benefit because he was the king. One day, a camel lost his way and wandered into the forest. The three friends of the lion saw the camel and realised that he did not belong to this forest, so he must have lost his way and reached there.“Let’s kill and eat him,” the jackal said to his friend. “No,” the wolf replied. “It is a large animal. Let us go and inform our king.” The crow said, “Yes, this is a good idea. Then he can kill the camel and we can all share the meat after the lion has had his share.” So, the three went to the lion and said, “Your Majesty, a camel has wandered into our kingdom from somewhere. He has a lot of flesh and may prove to be the best meal of our lives. Let’s kill him and eat him.” The lion was angered on listening to the three friends’ suggestion. “If the camel has come to our kingdom seeking refuge, it is my duty as the king to offer him protection, not to kill him and eat him. Go and bring him to me.”The three friends were very disheartened but they could not do anything contrary to the king’s wishes. They went to the camel and told him about the lion’s command. The camel was very scared on hearing this. He thought that his last moments had come. He resigned himself to fate and followed the three animals to the lion’s den. But he was surprised on reaching there, because the lion received him warmly. The lion also assured the camel of his safety while he was living in his kingdom. The camel was very happy. He started living with the jackal, wolf, and the crow. A few days later, while the lion and his friends were hunting for food, they got into a fight with a wild elephant. The fight got so fearsome that all three of the lion’s friends deserted him and fled. Though the lion managed to kill the elephant, he was badly injured in the fight. He was unable to hunt and had to go hungry for many days. His strength was failing. His friends were also starving because they depended wholly on the lion’s prey for their food. But the camel, being a vegetarian, was not affected. He grazed around happily as before.One day, the jackal, the wolf and the crow went up to the lion and said, “Your Majesty, you are becoming weaker day by day. Why don’t you kill the camel and eat him?” The lion replied fiercely, “No, he is our guest. We can’t treat him that way. Don’t even suggest that to me.”So, the three animals thought of another plan. They went to the camel and said, “Friend, our king is in a very unfortunate situation. He has had nothing to eat for many days and is unable to hunt for food. Under such circumstances, it is our duty to sacrifice ourselves to save our king’s life. Let us go to the king and offer him our bodies for his food.” The camel had no idea about the other three’s scheme and agreed to come along with them. All four reached the den of the lion. First, the crow came forward and said, “Your Majesty, we could not find any prey, so you can eat me.” The jackal said, “Your body is too small to assuage the king’s hunger. Your Majesty, I offer myself to you. Kill me and eat me.” The wolf said, “No, you are also too small to assuage our king’s hunger. I offer myself to you for this noble cause, My Lord. Kill me and eat me.”But the lion did not kill any of the three animals. The camel was standing there looking at what was going on. He thought that now it was his turn to go forward and make his offering. So, he said, “My Lord, a friend in need is a friend indeed. Please eat me and fulfil your hunger.”The lion had already been informed by the wolf that the camel was very keen on offering himself to the king. Now that the camel himself offered to sacrifice himself, the lion did not feel any pangs of conscience on killing the camel. So, he pounced on the camel at once and tore him to pieces. The lion and his friends fed on the camel for days. Moral:Beware of people who become friends only to fulfil their evil desires. They might appear to be sweet, but they are never trustworthy in reality.

But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything, all she had to live on.” Moral:God does not see quantity the same way that we do. He sees the nature of your heart.
