Once upon a time, there was a village called Dancing. A group of young girls and boys lived in that village. Every night after dinner, they would light a fire and dance around it.One evening a monkey came to the dance, wearing smart clothes and a stylish hat. He came and sat in a corner on a stone. No one recognised that he was a monkey. He also played melodious music with his drums.Every night, the monkey would come and play and the girls would dance with him happily. The girls loved him more each day. They also started showering him with gifts. One of them gave him a ring, the other gave him cookies.The boys were extremely jealous, as the attention of all the girls was always focused on the monkey.“Who is this new fellow and what is he doing in our village?” the boys asked one another, and decided to keep a close eye on him. That night they watched him quietly from a distance.The boys simply could not believe their eyes when they saw that the person whom the girls loved so much was a monkey in reality. It had a hairy body and a long tail.That night the guys laughed their hearts out and finally slept peacefully.The boys decided to play a prank on the monkey. They burnt some wood and put it around the stone where the monkey sat every day, and covered it with leaves.Like every evening the monkey came and sat on its usual place, only this time it did not feel the same. “OOOUUUUCHHHH!” screamed the monkey and jumped up from its seat. The hot stone had burnt his bottom through his pants. The monkey jumped into a bucket full of water to comfort himself.The boys laughed at the girls for dancing with the monkey and told them that they had taught a lesson to the monkey. When the girls got to know what the boys had done, they scolded the boys saying it didn’t matter if he was a monkey. He was a kind soul. They asked the boys to go and apologise to him but it was too late .The monkey ran away in the night and never come back.Ever since, monkeys have had red bottoms. Moral:We should respect the differences of everyone and accept everyone for who they are.

Once a village moneylender lost his purse so he announced a reward of a hundred rupees to the person who found it and returned it to him. A poor farmer found it. It contained one thousand rupees. The farmer was poor and needy but, at the same time, he was an honest man. He went to the moneylender and returned the purse to him.The moneylender opened the purse and counted the money in it. It was one thousand rupees. Then he said to the farmer, "You are a smart fellow. You have taken your reward beforehand."The farmer angrily asked, "What do you mean?" The moneylender said, "I mean what I say. The purse contained eleven hundred rupees. But now there are one thousand rupees in it. This means that you have already taken the reward money from the purse."The farmer said, "I have not taken any money from the purse. Let us go to the Sarpanch and settle the matter." So they went to the Sarpanch. The Sarpanch heard both the parties. He felt sure that the moneylender was dishonest.He asked the moneylender, "Are you sure that your purse contained eleven hundred rupees?" The moneylender said, "Yes, Sir." The Sarpanch said, 'Then this purse is not yours." And the Sarpanch gave away the purse to the farmer. Moral:You get what you deserve.

Once upon a time there was an old man with a huge orchard. He had a beautiful pomegranate tree there.&nbsp;He was loved in the entire kingdom because of his helpful nature and his wonderful advice.&nbsp;The Prince once visited his orchard to meet the old man. His coronation as a King was coming near and this made him a little anxious. He had asked the old man multiple times to be his Chief Advisor but due to his old age and depleting health, the old man had refused.&nbsp;The Prince asked, “How are you so wise? How do you always find such peace? There are so many ministers around me filled with hatred and envy. How would I someday run my Kingdom when I am surrounded by such people? How do you be so content?.”“It is all due to this pomegranate tree, your Highness. It fills me with such calm.”“I must suggest to my ministers that they plant a pomegranate orchard, so that they too will grow wiser,” said the Prince.As they parted ways, the old man gave the Prince a branch of the tree.&nbsp;"Thank you," said the Prince. "I will give this branch to my gardener, and have him plant it in my garden."“Your Highness, if you wish the tree to help you, you must plant it yourself and take care of it. The pomegranate is a delicate tree. It requires a lot of nurturing. In winter it must be covered and you must pour more soil around it. The warmer the tree is in winter, the more delicious and curative are its fruits. Pomegranate can cure several illnesses quickly. Broth made from pomegranate's bark strengthen the gums, a glass of pomegranate juice taken every day for a month dissolves kidney stones.”The Prince nodded and the old man continued, “Similarly, to run a Kingdom you must understand its needs. You must nurture it like your own child, shield it during storms and only then can you reap success.”Moral:To be successful at something, patience, hard-work, and dedication are the most important.

Once, the Queen wanted to give alms to all the blinds in the kingdom. Emperor Akbar wanted to be sure that none of the blinds were deprived of alms, so he directed his men to prepare a list of blind people in his kingdom.As per order of the Emperor, a comprehensive list of the blind people was made and presented before the king. Emperor Akbar handed over the list to Birbal and asked him to make adequate arrangements for distribution of alms.Birbal glanced at the list and said, “Your Majesty, I will do the needful. But, do you know that there are more blind people than the ones listed here? In fact, the number of blinds is far greater than the number of sighted people in our kingdom.”Akbar said, “That is a ridiculous thing to say, Birbal! If it is true, prove it to me.” Birbal accepted the Emperor’s challenge.The next day, Birbal took a frame of an old cot and carried it with him to the main crossing. He then sat on the road and started weaving its rope. He had a servant with a paper and a pen, standing next to him. Soon, a courtier came and exclaimed, “Birbal, what are you doing?”Birbal did not answer him. He just whispered something in the ear of his servant and kept at his work. A little later, some more people gathered on the street. They were extremely surprised to see Raja Birbal weaving a cot and thus, started asking all sorts of questions.“What is wrong with Raja Birbal?”“Why is he doing this?”“What could be the reason behind this?”Each time someone made a comment, the servant quickly jotted down something on the piece of paper. The news that Raja Birbal was weaving a cot on the road spread like wildfire in the city. By evening, Akbar, too, came to know about this. He went to Birbal to see for himself.He asked Birbal in a surprised tone, “I don’t understand what you are trying to do!”The servant again wrote down something on the paper. Birbal stood up and greeted the king. He said, “Jahanpanah, I was making the list of blinds!” He then gave the list to the Emperor to see.Emperor Akbar was astonished to see his name at the end of the list. He asked Birbal, “Birbal, why have you included my name in your list of blinds?”Birbal politely replied, “Your Majesty, you are also one of them! You were the last person to come and ask me what I was doing, even though you could clearly see that I was weaving the cot.”Akbar burst out laughing and said, “Yes Birbal, I do agree with you that the number of blinds in our kingdom is far more than the sighted people.

The bible gives the messages God has desired for us to understand. Following is a story from “The Bible”. When King Xerxes ruled the Persian Empire, he found himself looking for a wife. All the young maidens in the kingdom were taken to the palace and given beauty treatments for a year, after which they were sent before the king, for him to pick his wife. When Hadassah was taken, her cousin, Mordecai, told her not to let anyone know she was Jewish, as they were hated and distrusted among the people, so she called herself Esther.The king was charmed by Esther, and he picked her to be his queen. During her time as queen, an evil man named Haman convinced the king that all the Jews in the kingdom needed to be killed. When Mordecai found out about the plan, he sent word to Esther and told her that she needed to speak to the king. Esther was afraid, as it was forbidden to go before the king without being summoned. Only if the king was pleased and held out his sceptre, was the person accepted into his presence. If he did not, they would be put to death.Mordecai told Esther that she had to try to speak to the king, regardless, because God had put her in a high position, so that she would be able to save her people. Queen Esther commanded all the Jews, including herself, to fast for three days, at the end of which, she went before the king.The king was so pleased with his wife that he gladly held out the sceptre to her. She told him everything and Haman was put to death. The Jewish people were given permission to defend themselves, if anyone tried to attack them. In this way, Esther saved her people. Moral:God raises people into certain positions because He has a plan for them and will use them to help more of His people.

Mahabharata is an ancient Indian epic about the brothers, Pandavas and kauravas. It describes the battle between them in the Kurukshetra war for the throne of Hastinapura. It is an epic tale that combines war, religion, philosophy and Hindu history. Following is a story from “The Mahabharata.” The Pandavas during the time of their exile once walked into the forest of Romarishi. Romarishi was a Sage whose body was covered with hair and his beard was so long that it spread like a carpet on the entire area of the forest . There was a sacred tree in that forest yielding a very special type of fruit which, once tasted by a person, would relieve him of hunger and thirst for years and years. But the fruit was not to be plucked, it was to be eaten only when it fell down on its own. One day Yudhisthira and Draupadi chanced to come near the tree. Draupadi was very much tempted to taste that luscious big fruit hanging from the tree. She said, “Can we not take that fruit? We can all share it.” Yudhisthira shot an arrow and the fruit fell on the ground. He went to take the fruit with his hand. It was so heavy that he could not move it. Yudhisthira tried to lift it with all his strength using both his hands but he could not lift it. Draupadi also tried but in vain. In the meantime, Arjuna arrived at that place. He tried to lift the fruit but could not succeed. The two younger brothers Nakula and Sahadeva came and tried to lift the fruit but they too could not succeed. Finally came the mighty hero, Bhima . He asked the others to stay away and said, “I will lift it.” But even Bhima failed. Meanwhile the hair of Romarishi which had spread all over the area, began to stir because when these six people were trying to lift the fruit, the strands of hair were being trodden and pulled. He realised that someone must be trying to steal the fruit . He had become furious. His long hair came together and coiled around the Pandavas to tie them up. Draupadi realised the danger and as always in times of danger immediately prayed to Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna appeared before them. Draupadi fell at His feet and prayed to Him for help. Shri Krishna said, “Sister, I am helpless. Romarishi is a great Sage. I reside in his heart. How can I do anything against the wishes of my devotee?” Draupadi once again pleaded, “You alone can save us, you can do anything if you wish to.” Shri Krishna replied, “I will help you, but all of you should be totally silent whatever may be the situation and do exactly as I tell you.” Draupadi and Pandavas promised to obey his orders. Shri Krishna went towards Romarishi’s ashram and instructed them to follow him after some time. In the meantime, Romarishi was so enraged that he had actually started to walk towards the tree to curse the poachers. Just then Shri Krishna entered the ashram. Romarishi fell at the Lotus Feet of the Lord. He was overjoyed to see Shri Krishna. He said, “How fortunate am I to have you as my guest. Oh Bhagavan! What can I do for you?” Shri Krishna engaged him in discussing certain spiritual matters till the Pandavas arrived. As soon as the Pandavas along with Draupadi reached the ashram, Shri Krishna hurried towards them and fell at their feet. The Pandavas were feeling embarrassed but remembering the Lord’s command, kept quiet. Seeing Lord Shri Krishna fall at the feet of the Pandavas, Romarishi also fell at the feet of the visitors. Then Shri Krishna asked them to come into the ashram. He introduced them to Romarishi. He praised the virtuous Yudhisthira , valiant Bhima and Arjuna and the intelligent Nakul and Sahadeva, and above all, the devout Draupadi. Romarishi by that time totally forgot about the fruit and the poachers. Krishna informed Romarishi that the Pandavas were the people who were tempted to taste the fruit being unaware of the unique nature of the fruit. Romarishi desired to please those who could please the Lord Himself . He said, “Let them take the fruit. I would like them to have it.” By eating the fruit, the Pandavas were able to live without hunger for a long time during their exile.

Sage Romarishi, The Pandavas and Bhagavan Sri Krishna

Swami Vivekananda was born in a rich noble family by the name of Narendranath Dutta. Despite his parents push towards his noble and family duties, Narendranath was very much drawn towards spirituality and religion. He went away from home and was wandering around when he met Ramakrishna Paramhans who was a very well renowned saint. He listened to Ramakrishna Paramhans's ideology and was very much inspired by him. He was a very devoted disciple of the saint and learned a lot from him. He took the name of Swami Vivekanand and set off to spread the word of Ramakrishna. As he was growing old, the saint handed the responsibility of his other disciples to Swami Vivekanand. After his death, all his disciples united and founded the Ramakrishna Mission. The Ramkrishna mission's main goal is to provide help to whoever needs it.&nbsp; The mission has multiple schools of their own to provide quality education for underprivileged and medicines for the poor.

Following is a story from “The Mahabharata”.In ancient India, nearly 5000 years ago, there lived a young prince of Nishada (a tribe of hunters) named Ekalavya. Even though he was a hunter by birth, he aspired to become a great archer and a brave warrior. He wanted to to learn archery from the great Guru Dronacharya. Dronacharya was the greatest teacher of the art of archery and the science of warfare in the kingdom. He was the royal teacher of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Ekalavaya approached Dronacharya but he refused to teach him because he belonged to a lower caste.Ekalavya felt very bad but he did not give up his will to become an archer. He collected the soil on which Dronacharya walked and made an idol out of it. He believed that if he practised faithfully in front of his Guru, he would be able to master the art of archery. So, every morning he would pray in front of the idol and practise throughout the day. After years of practising, he became a skilled archer, even surpassing the best archer in the kingdom- Arjuna.One day, Dronacharya came to know about Ekalavya’s skill, he visited him to know about his Guru. Ekalavya then showed him the idol and said, “You are my Guru.” Dronacharya was worried that Ekalavya would become a better archer than Arjuna, his favourite student. Therefore, Dronacharya asked Ekalavya to pay him Guru Dakshina. Ekalavya was overjoyed with this and said, “I am blessed that you ask me for guru Dakshina. I would never refuse anything that you ask.” Dronacharya then said, “You have to give me your right thumb as Guru Dakshina.”Ekalavya looked steadily at Dronacharya. Without any further questions, he said, “I will never disobey your wish, sir.” Saying this he took out a knife and cut off his right thumb and placed it at his Guru’s feet.Later Ekalavya learned to shoot with his forefinger and middle finger and remains an example of an ideal student till today. Moral:This story teaches us to be determined and stay dedicated to our goal. It teaches us to respect our teachers.

Once, there lived a King and Queen in a beautiful, huge kingdom. The king and queen had a beautiful daughter named Snow White. She was very pretty and had gorgeous black hair and fair skin. The princess became more beautiful as she grew up. She was very kind and generous. But as she grew up, her mother died. Snow White was very depressed after her mother died.The king married a new queen and she turned out to be an evil witch. She had a magic mirror. One day she asked the mirror to tell her who was the most beautiful woman in the kingdom. The mirror replied, “Snow White.” The queen could not hear this and decided to kill her. She directed a soldier to take Snow White away from the Kingdom and kill her.The soldier took Snow White to the forest to kill her, as directed by the queen. Snow White was very kind and generous. She had shown her generosity to everyone. The soldier was also aware of her kind nature. So, the soldier could not kill her. He advised the princess to run away and never come back because the queen wanted to kill her.The princess was shocked by hearing this. She ran as fast as she could through the forest. After a while, she was tired. She decided to take some rest. She saw a tiny house and decided to go inside. When she entered the house, she saw that everything was very small. But as she was very tired, she decided to take some rest. She laid down on the little bed and fell asleep.The princess was sleeping on the bed and after some time seven dwarves entered the tiny house. As they entered the house, they saw Snow-white on the bed and were surprised. The dwarfs said, “Why is a girl sleeping on our bed? What is she doing here?” The voice woke up the princess. She told everything to the dwarves. She told them about the witch queen. The dwarves allowed the princess to stay in their house. The princess soon became friends with the dwarves. She cooked food for them and they lived happily.The witch queen soon found out that the princess was still alive. She turned herself into an old lady and entered the house. The witch knocked on the door. Snow White opened the door and saw an old lady. The old lady gave her a delicious apple and asked her to taste it. Snow White took the bite of the apple. The apple was poisonedand as soon as she took a bite, she fell on the ground and never woke up. The little dwarves were very sad and decided to put her on the flower bed.One day, a prince saw Snow-White lying on a flower bed. He was awe-struck by her beauty and fell in love with her. He took her hand and kissed it. The moment, the prince kissed her, she woke up. The kiss had the power to break the witch’s magic.As soon as she woke up, she saw the prince. She was pleased to see the charming prince. She fell in love with him. The prince and Snow White then lived a happy life. The witch became mad and in anger, she broke her mirror and never heard the mirror talk again. Moral:Selfish desire is dangerous. Do not trust strangers.
