Wolf!”On hearing his cries, the villagers rushed to help him chase the wolf away and save the sheep.When they saw the grinning boy and realised he had cried wolf for his amusement, they scolded him and told him to not cry wolf!The next day, the boy cried out that the wolf was there. The villagers came, scolded him again, and left.Later that same day, a wolf came and terrorized the sheep.The boy cried, “Wolf! Wolf! Please help me.”But, the villagers assumed that he was pulling a silly prank again and did not come to his rescue. Midas helped the Satyr and asked for his wish to be granted in return.The Satyr agreed and Midas wished for everything he touched to be turned to gold. His wish was granted.Extremely excited, Midas went home to his wife and daughter touching pebbles, rocks, and plants on the way, which turned into gold.As his daughter hugged him, she turned into a golden statue.Having learnt his lesson, Midas begged the Satyr to reverse the spell who granted that everything would go back to their original state.Moral of the story: Stay content and grateful for what you have. Greed will not get you anywhere. <h3>3. He suspected that one of his servants had robbed him.On hearing this, Birbal thought of a clever plan and summoned the merchant’s servants.He gave each servant a stick of the same length. He told them that the thief’s stick would grow two inches by the next day.The next day, Birbal summoned the servants again. He noticed that a servant’s stick was two inches shorter than the others.He knew who the thief was.The foolish thief had cut the stick shorter by two inches as he thought it would grow two inches. Thus, proving his guilt.Moral of the story: Truth and justice will always prevail. <h3>4. Suddenly, two frogs in the group accidentally fell into a deep pit.The other frogs worried about their friends in the pit.Seeing how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that there was no way they could escape the deep pit and that there was no point in trying.They continued to constantly discourage them as the two frogs tried to jump out of the pit. But keep falling back.Soon, one of the two frogs started to believe the other frogs — that they’ll never be able to escape the pit and eventually died after giving up.The other frog keeps trying and eventually jumps so high that he escapes the pit. The other frogs were shocked at this and wondered how he did it.The difference was that the second frog was deaf and couldn’t hear the discouragement of the group. He promised them that their favour would be returned in the time of their need.The elephants laughed. How could such small mice help these large elephants in any way? Guru Gobind Ji along with being a great warrior was also a great teacher. He taught Sikhs to meditate and also taught them to train their bodies. He was an expert in shooting.One day, Aurangzeb sent an army to surround Anandpur Sahib gurudwara where Guru and his followers were living. The army set up a camp about two miles away. Anandpur was cut off from all the food and water that was coming in.One day, two generals named Zabardast Khan and Wajir Khan were playing chess in the camp. They were not aware that Guruji was watching them from distance through a telescope. Guruji shot an arrow high into the sky from the Anandpur fortress. The arrow soared through the sky and fell into the leg of the bench on which the generals were sitting. Everyone was shocked after seeing the arrow. They thought someone was attacking them.Wajir Khan took the arrow and wondered who would dare to shoot an arrow on them. A prince who lived near Anandpur said, “I know who has shot the arrow. It has a gold arrowhead so it must be of Guru Govind Singh.” The guru always put gold on his arrows so the families of the dead will be cared for. The generals were confused as they thought if he was around them, they would have seen and captured him.The other prince said, “Guru is a very brave man. I have heard many stories of his heroism. He must have shot the arrow from the top of the fortress.” After hearing this,the soldiers started laughing they thought nobody can shoot from that far.Wajir Khan ordered to resume the game. When they sat for the game, again an arrow soared through the sky. This time it hit the same spot as the last one. Everyone freaked out.This time the arrow had a letter with it. The letter read, “This is not a miracle. This skill comes from practice. I was not trying to kill anyone. The arrow was not meant to hit anyone.”The general was shocked. He could not believe how someone can shoot from that far. Guruji’s message to them was clear, the Sikhs will never give up. The Sikhs will be kind but with that will never surrender.

Gobindji’s Arrow

Guru Nanak was the first of the ten gurus and the founder of Sikhism. Guru Nanak became the first Sikh Guru and the framework on which Sikhism was developed through his spiritual teachings.To transmit his beliefs, Guru Nanak travelled across South Asia and the Middle East. He advocated the existence of one God and taught his followers that through meditation and pious practices, every human being can reach out to God. Ironically, Guru Nanak did not support monk life, requesting his disciples to pursue an honest householder's life.His teachings were immortalized in the form of 974 hymns, revered as 'Guru Granth Sahib’, Sikhism's holy book. Sikhism is one of India's major religions with more than 20 million followers.Nanak was born into a Hindu middle-class family, raised by Mehta Kalu and Mata Tripta, his parents. He spent most of his childhood with his sister, Bebe Nanak because he was fond of her. As a child, Nanak would often surprise everyone with his intelligence and interest in divine subjects.Nanak wanted to stay with his sister so he went to Sultanpur, where his sister stayed after marriage. Nanak would go every morning to a nearby river during his stay in Sultanpur to bathe and meditate. One fine day, as usual, he went to the river, but for three days he did not return.Nanak is believed to have gone deep into the forest and spent three days there. When he came back, he didn't utter a word. When he actually talked, he said, "There is no Hindu and no Muslim." He believed in humanity and peace.Nanak then came to be known as Guru Nanak (teacher) as he travelled far and wide to spread his teachings.

Guru Nanak

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the Sikhs' 10th Guru. He was Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji's only child. He was born to Mata Gujri Ji at Sri Patna Sahib Ji in Bihar on December 22, 1666. Guru Ji's native name was Gobind Rai.Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a spiritual leader and a great warrior. He had to spend most of his time fighting against the oppression and suppression committed by the unjust forces. He was a unique builder of a nation that fought for justice. For human freedom, equality, and brotherhood, he sacrificed his all. Two of his youngest sons were bricked alive.The Khalsa Brotherhood order was announced by Guru Gobind Singh Ji at gurudwara Sri Anandpur Sahib Ji. At Anandpur Sahib Ji on Baisakhi Day in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh Ji instructed the Sikhs to pledge to live a pure life as taught by the other nine Gurus.Guru Gobind Singh Ji offered males and females respectively the name of ‘Singh’ and ‘Kaur’ to be used after their first name. He also introduced a code of discipline for Khalsa warriors which included the prohibition of tobacco, Halal meat, and adultery.The last battle was fought against tyrant Mughals at Khidrana, Muktsar (Punjab, India). Guru Ji sacrificed his great grandfather, father, four sons, and mother for the Khalsa Panth.Guru Gobind Ji Introduced the Khalsa &amp; the Five Ks and declared Guru Granth Sahib as eternal Guru for Sikhs. He wrote books such as Zafarnamah, BachittarNatak, Chaupai (Sikhism), Akal Ustat, Jaap Sahib, Tav-Prasad Savaiye, Chandi di Var.

Guru Gobind Singh

Guru Nanak once flew to Kashmir with Mardana and Bala, his two friends who had always supported him. They reached to the city of Sri Nagar. Because of Nanak’s beliefs and teachings, people knew who he was.A Pundit named Brahm Das, also lived in that town. He said, "I don't think I'm going to be pleased with this newcomer. It is me who has great knowledge and supernatural powers. I'm going to show him my potential. I'm going to fly down to where he is seated and there's no question that when I land, he'll be impressed.”He got on his rug and flew up to where a large crowd had assembled around the Guru. All seemed happy. He looked and searched but there was no place where he could see Guru Nanak. He landed and asked the people, "Where is this Guru?" The Guru was sitting among the crowd with his sweet voice and beautiful face, but the Pundit was unable to see him.He was trying to fly free from his rug, yet it wasn't effective. None of his tactics worked, and he had to walk back on foot.The next day, the pundit humbly walked on foot to meet the Guru. This time he saw the Guru among the crowd. The pundit bowed before the Guru and asked, “Respected Guru, I was not able to see yesterday. I want to know why?” The Guru replied, “How could you see in such extreme darkness?”. The pundit surprisingly said, “Darkness? But it was the day.” The Guru replied, “There is no deeper darkness than pride. Because you can fly you think you are so great. Look around, the birds can fly, the insects can fly. Do you want to be like them?”Guru further added, “You worship gods and goddesses and they are temporary just like humans. You followed men of great knowledge and have become lost in that knowledge. That kind of knowledge which increases the darkness of ego, it will not help you. Look within yourself and see the truth.”Pandit was impressed by the words and said, “I have now learned to seek wisdom and happiness from within.”

One of the many disciples of Guru Ram Dass, the fourth Sikh Guru, was Arjun Dev who was always dedicated to the duties assigned to him.His duty was scrubbing the utensils and the other disciples asked him to also serve the Guru sometimes.Arjun Dev replied, “My work is of cleaning the utensils, I do upon Guru’s orders.”The others insisted that the Guru will not be pleased simply by this and that Arjun should serve the Guru too. They went quiet when Arjun replied, “My duty is to serve and obey, not please the Guru.’Time went on and the other disciples did not advice more. Arjun continued his work and the Guru’s health declined.When Guru Ram Dass died everybody wanted to know what was written in his will. Every disciple was so sure that they will succeed the Guru and inherit his fortune.When the ‘will’ was opened, Arjun Dev had been declared the successor.Everyone, particularly those who had high hopes, was surprised and some even questioned Arjun’s qualities.The wise men said, “In the Guru’s views Arjun Dev was the only deserving successor to him.” The disciples asked, “But he never said his prayers. He never took part in the religious discourses. He was only cleaning utensils. Nothing else did he do. Then where lies the justification in making him the successor.”The reply was that the eligibility for becoming the Guru’s successor is one’s innate faith, absolute devotion and discipline, as well as his knowledge and wisdom. Moral:Pleasing others does not take you far, being disciplined and completing the work given to you with devotion brings rewards.
