Once upon a time there broke out a fight between a Neem tree and a Mango tree. Both of them claimed to be better than the other.“So you think you are better than me? You are not.” The Neem tree argued.“I so totally am. I grow mangoes, the King of Fruits. I am better than everybody.” The mango tree argued.&nbsp;The Neem tree said, “ I am the most productive tree. I am so useful. My bark, leaves and seeds are used to make so many different medicines.”“Not just you. There are many trees that can do that. You are not special.” The mango tree argued, “ But I am special. Who else could grow mangoes other than a mango tree. Mangoes which are loved by all are my gift to the world.”“But my bark is used to cure malaria, my fruits are used to cure diabetes, my stem is used to kill harmful mosquitoes and to cure skin diseases. Can you do that? No. All you can do is produce sweet fruits, that too only in one season after extraordinary amount of maintenance.”“Mangoes are high in vitamins, especially vitamin C, fibre and other minerals which are required for being healthy. They are not called the King of fruits for no reason.”The mango tree and the Neem tree kept arguing back and forth and it dragged on for so long that the birds and ants went to the wise Banyan tree to get him to sort this fight out.The Banyan tree was known to be wise after having lived for so long. Everyone trusted the Banyan tree to sort their problems out.The Banyan tree sighed and interrupted the arguing trees, “Everyone is equally useful in different scenarios. My roots are very deep and they hold the soil together, preventing soil erosion, Neem tree is used in multiple medicines, Mango trees make about fifty different varieties of mangoes. We are all special. Now can you all please stop fighting like children?”Both the mango tree and the neem tree were embarrassed about how petty they were being and so they instantly kept quiet. Moral:No one is insignificant in this world. Every being has its own importance.

The fight between the trees

Ann visits her mother’s family home after many years of living in the city.She is immediately in awe of her surroundings. Her mother takes her to visit the large backyard that they had. It was full of so many big trees that were gently swaying in the cool breeze.Ann sees so many different types of trees and she knows nothing about them so she asks her mother to explain them.Her mother takes her hand and firstly they stop by the Banyan tree. The Banyan tree is a mighty tree with roots hanging from its branches. The roots are very thick and Ann thinks that the tree is a giant.“The roots, fruits and buds of Banyan tree can cure diabetes, diarrhea, inflammation and a lot more. Also, it is so big with so many leaves that it keeps the air clean.” Her mother says. “ When I was a child, I used to swing from their roots. Do you want to try?”Ann nods excitedly and has a lot of fun swinging. After that they see the Palash tree. “This is a Palash tree. Its flowers have a lot of nectar for the bees to make honey.”Ann looks up in awe, “It is very beautiful.”Ann’s mother nods and then they stop in front of the Peepal tree, “ Peepal tree is very important in the Hindu religion. It is also used in making medicines which can cure Asthma, skin diseases, constipation and even snake bites.”Ann looks up at the Peepal tree which was also known as the sacred fig and was left in awe as she learns about its benefits.Then they visit the Jamun tree which has Jamun fruits hanging from it. They eat some Jamun as her mother explains, “Jamuns are high in Vitamin A and Vitamin C. They have a very high nutritional value.”“This is a Deodar tree. It is very tall and its fragrant wood is used in making incense and oil.” Her mother says as Ann sniffed at the bark of the Deodar tree.They stop at the Tamarind tree. It has a thin trunk but a very huge canopy. “The tamarind tree grows the tamarind fruits which are used in kitchens for flavouring foods.”Next, Ann’s mother tells her about the Sal trees. Ann notices that the sal is very tall and slim. Her mother tells her, “They have very thick leaves which are used in making serving plates”.Lastly they visit the Neem tree. “Neem trees keep the air clean and burning their leaves is often used for repelling mosquitoes. It is used in making herbal medicines and in making skin care and hair care products.”As they leave, her mother says, “See. Trees are so helpful and essential for our survival. We must always protect them.”Ann learns a lot and decides to plant more trees and protect them. Moral:Trees give us most things that we need in order to survive and so we must always conserve them.

A backyard full of trees

Once upon a time in a dense forest stood a pineapple tree and an oak tree, side by side. Though they were neighbours, they never shared a great bond. The pineapple tree always made fun of the oak tree and displayed a lot of attitude.The pineapple tree would keep saying that “I am so juicy and delicious”. With me around, nobody would want you. This went on for a long time. There would be many trespassers who would just give a stare at the oak tree but when they saw the pineapple tree, they would try to grab one or two pineapples from the tree for a taste. In case of the oak tree, there is no edible use, since oaks contain acid they cannot be consumed. The trunk of the tree is used to make wood. The oak tree was well aware of this fact and felt miserable, but could do nothing about it except feeling bad.Soon a family came to live near the forest- a husband-wife and their son. The son had faced a weird injury wherein he kept bleeding little little everyday. The doctor had suggested that the only cure was to find the bark of an oak tree and apply it for several days until the bleeding stopped completely. Hence this couple had come around looking for an oak tree and here they were happy to find one. Now it was the oak tree’s turn to make the pineapple tree feel low. However, the oak tree did not because he knew how it felt to be ignored. The pineapple tree finally realised how it felt to be dejected. Moral:Everyone has abilities and good qualities; no one should be made to feel worthless.
